A quotation is only as accurate as the enquiry behind it. The more completely you describe the tube, the faster you receive a firm price and the fewer surprises there are later.
Details Every Quote Request Needs
- Outside diameter and wall thickness of each size
- Quantity as total length, number of pieces or weight
- Length per piece, or confirmation that random lengths are acceptable
- Condition: normalized, annealed, stress relieved or as-drawn
- Standard, normally ASTM A519 Grade 4130
- Certification and any inspection or testing required
- Delivery location and the delivery term you prefer
If you are unsure about a detail, say what the tube is for. The application often settles the condition and tolerance that should be offered.
Comparing Quotations
Check that each offer is for the same thing. Two prices can differ because one is for random lengths and the other for cut pieces, because the conditions differ, or because one includes freight and the other does not. What Happens After You Send an Enquiry
Each size on your list is checked for availability and any that need to be sourced are identified. If a detail is missing or a size looks unusual, you may be asked a question before the offer is prepared; answering it quickly keeps things moving. The quotation then states, for each size, the description, quantity, price, the documents included and the delivery period, along with the delivery term and how long the offer stays open. Read it against your enquiry line by line. If it is right, confirm it in writing so the material can be allocated to your order.
