4130 Chromoly Tubing in Europe
European buyers meet this steel under two names. American-origin drawings ask for 4130; European drawings ask for 25CrMo4, material number 1.7218. Knowing which one your project requires is the first step in ordering.
4130 or 25CrMo4?
The two grades are close in composition and are often described as equivalents, but their limits are not identical and they are made to different standards. 4130 to ASTM A519 is produced in inch sizes. 25CrMo4 tube to European standards is produced in metric sizes. A design drawn in metric dimensions will not be matched exactly by an inch tube.

Certification and Shipping
Material is supplied with an EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificate, the document type European quality systems expect. Orders travel by sea freight to the European port you nominate. Documents include the invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificates. When Imported 4130 Makes Sense in Europe
European stockists naturally favour 25CrMo4 in metric sizes, so inch-size 4130 can be harder to find locally. Imported tube is useful for American-designed kit aircraft, for drag racing chassis built to American specifications, for restoration of American vehicles and aircraft, and for any design drawn in inch dimensions. In these cases the drawing calls for 4130 by name and size, and supplying exactly that avoids the need for substitution approvals.
