2.000" 4130 Chromoly Tubing

Two-inch OD 4130 tubing is used where loads are high or spans are long: cages for trucks and off-road vehicles, tubular axles and driveline parts, and machine components that are turned or bored from tube.

Where 2.000" OD 4130 Tube Is Used

In thin walls the size makes light, stiff members for long-span frames. In heavier walls it becomes a blank for machined parts such as sleeves, spacers, bushes and cylinder bodies, where starting from tube saves the cost of boring solid bar.

At two inches and above, bending needs more machine capacity and a larger radius, so check what your bender can handle before ordering thin walls. For machined parts, tell us the finished OD and bore so a tube with enough stock on both surfaces can be offered.

Ordering 2.000" OD Tubing

Give OD, wall, condition and standard. Note that 2.000" tube is not the same as 2" nominal pipe, which measures 2.375" OD; the difference is explained on the Schedule 40 page. Larger sizes are listed under large diameter tubing.

2.000" OD 4130 Tubing: Wall, Bore and Weight Table

The table lists the bore, metal cross-section and theoretical weight for 2.000" (50.80 mm) outside diameter across the walls normally requested in cold drawn seamless 4130.

Values are calculated from nominal dimensions (weight = (OD − wall) × wall × 10.69). A row in this table is a dimensional reference, not a statement that the size is held in stock; confirm availability when you enquire.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 2.000" OD tube the same as 2-inch pipe?

No. Two-inch nominal pipe has an outside diameter of 2.375". Mechanical tubing is ordered by its actual OD, so 2.000" tube measures 2.000".

What does 2.000" × 0.120" 4130 tubing weigh?

About 2.41 lb/ft, or 3.59 kg/m, from nominal dimensions.

Can 2.000" 4130 tube be machined into bushings?

Yes. State the finished dimensions so a wall with enough machining allowance can be selected. Annealed material machines more easily than normalized.

What is the bore of 2.000" × 0.095" tubing?

The nominal inside diameter is 1.810".

Can 2.000" OD 4130 be used for roll cages?

Some heavy-vehicle and off-road rules specify it. Check the rulebook for the diameter and wall required.
