Under ASTM A519, Cold Drawn Seamless (CDS) 4130 tubing is subject to specific dimensional tolerances for OD and wall. For most common OD ranges, the OD tolerance is within ±0.5% of the nominal OD, and wall tolerance is typically +20% / -0% (minimum wall guarantee). Buyers with tighter tolerance requirements should state them explicitly — standard tolerances may not be sufficient for precision machined applications.

Requirements You Can Add to an A519 Order

• Tension test. Confirms yield, tensile strength and elongation. Add it whenever a design relies on a minimum strength.
• Hardness test. A quick check on condition, useful for machining stock and heat-treated tube.
• Non-destructive test. Ultrasonic or eddy current inspection for internal and surface defects. Add it for critical or pressure-related parts.
• Product analysis. A chemical check on the finished tube in addition to the heat analysis.
• Closer tolerances. Tighter limits on OD, ID, wall or straightness than the standard tables.
• Special marking or packing. For traceability on site or protection in transit.

Each addition should be written on the order with its acceptance criteria. Asking afterwards is often impossible, because tests have to be done on the production lot.
