4130 Tubing — 0.095" Wall

0.095" wall, equal to 2.41 mm or 13 gauge, is a step up for heavier vehicles and harder use. It is widely ordered at 1.500" and 1.750" OD for roll cages, and for suspension and steering parts that see high loads.

Where a 0.095" Wall Is Used

Road racing and rally cages frequently use this wall because it satisfies many rulebooks while remaining reasonably light. Off-road builders use it for shock mounts, link bars and trailing arms.

The extra thickness over 0.083" gives more margin against denting and against wall tolerance, which helps when an inspector measures the tube. It also bends more predictably on tight radii than thinner walls of the same diameter.

Fabrication Notes

TIG welding remains the usual process. As the wall increases, so does the benefit of a modest pre-heat and of letting joints cool slowly in still air. Notch fit-up should be tight, since gaps filled with weld metal are weaker than the parent tube. The welding guide lists filler and pre-heat practice.

0.095" Wall 4130 Tubing: OD, Bore and Weight Table

The table shows how a 0.095" (2.41 mm) wall behaves across common outside diameters. The OD-to-wall ratio is a quick guide to how easily the tube bends and how readily it dents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is 0.095" wall in millimetres and gauge?

0.095" equals 2.41 mm and corresponds to 13 gauge (BWG).

How much does 1.750" × 0.095" 4130 tubing weigh?

About 1.68 lb/ft, or 2.50 kg/m, from nominal dimensions.

Is 0.095" or 0.120" wall better for a roll cage?

Whichever the rules require for your vehicle weight and class. Where both are allowed, 0.095" saves weight and 0.120" gives more margin.

What is the bore of 1.500" × 0.095" tubing?

The nominal inside diameter is 1.310".
